Ride the Storms is the eyewitness account of one man’s mercurial journey through time and space. Experience the thrill of backpacking around the world, hitchhiking 30,000 miles in North America, and working as a commercial halibut fisherman in the Gulf of Alaska. Feel the frustration of repeated rejection at the entry gate to medical school and the satisfaction of ultimately transcending those barriers to reach the frontiers of medical science.
Those exhilarating travel and creative professional experiences, however, did not protect the author from the life-threatening trauma of being crushed and rendered comatose by an out-of-control, big-rig truck, nor from the inner demons of mental illness that nearly killed his beloved wife of now more than forty years. With perseverance in the face of great odds, those seemingly insurmountable obstacles have been overcome. Rich’s message for others dealing with adversity is that they should always give their best effort, no matter how bleak the circumstance may appear.

A powerful story about a man, his passion for life, and the love for his family. The will to overcome obstacles and excel in life’s challenges in a leaky boat. A good read.
Thanks for your kind and reassuring remarks. The show goes on.
This is a well-written and engaging autobiography of an extraordinary life. Because the book is written with both humor and emotional transparency, you will find it easy to relate to the author despite his unique, and often extreme, circumstances. This detailed account paints a clear picture of who the author is, and you will quickly find yourself in his corner as he faces some of life’s toughest battles. Prepare to both laugh and cry, and to feel satisfied as the book comes to an end. This one is definitely worth reading.

What a rare and courageous person. Plain gutsy, self-made man, and steadfast. To have embarked upon and to have had such a life adventure. A privilige to have met you in person, Doc!!. Not to mention, in Yuma, and the circumstances.
I too, have had very intersting life journeys of discoveries, BUT…. It pales in comparison. My admiration, and my hat is off to you.
Kind words are always appreciated, especially coming from a fellow rider in the storms.
I Feel blog, “Ride The Storms” was really good!
I really can’t see eye to eye along with you even more! Finally appears like I personally found a blogging site definitely worth reading through. Thank you, Chante
Glad that you found some comfort in my words. Any specific aspects that touched you the most?
Fantastic read, made even more enjoyable and relatable by the fact that it’s all 100% true. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll be riveted by the tales of Dr. Levy’s rich and eventful life. His courage and plainspoken wisdom make this one a keeper.
Kind comments like yours reinforce my belief that the story was worth telling.
Hey Doc, it’s the Murrieta laser queen. I just bought your book and am about to find out all your secrets. Thanks bunches for all your kindness.
No secrets. My life is an open book. Party on.
king of puns
I had the honor of meeting Dr. Levy at a recent social event. What an impressive, insightful visionary he appears to be. We talked non-stop for 90 minutes during the event about his life’s experiences. Truly a gifted and giving man.
I should have written this long ago. A compelling odyssey of adventure, challenge, adversity, tragedy, recovery and love – and it’s your story. Among the many things you’ve given your family, this book will be the one that lasts forever. I really admire the work, dedication, commitment, and the emotional challenge that you must have experienced to write this. Take care of your lovely wife ( I knew her first!). May the best of all be ahead of you.
The odyssey continues, although it seem’s a bit surrealistic to consider writing a sequel to the story of my life. Maybe the game has now gone into extra innings, but there’s no crying in baseball.
